Miriam’s inaugural exhibition features over 50 diverse artist publishers’ work, as well as an avant-garde performance from STRANGER, and live risograph artist printing where people will be able to draw, create, and take home prints from the party. We expect an audience made up of young local artists and Williamsburg residents.
Our inaugural show, Books @ Miriam, interrogates the book as a creative medium across multiple perspectives and practices, and seeks out publishers who have taken unconventional approaches to material and binding. Drawn to the inherently inclusive nature of the book—how it invites intimate engagement—we celebrate its democracy, rather than its rarity. With publications as the centerpiece, we intersperse unique artworks that amplify the materiality of the books, and reveal a composition in the gallery space.
Through this presentation of publications, a print residency, and thematically related public programming, we reimagine our bookstore as an exhibition space of sorts, inviting all to contemplate, collaborate, and play.
